This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

There are a ton of things to do in Ni No Kuni 2, and some of the quests turn into puzzles of trying to figure out which item you need. One such puzzle is the Pontus’s Ocean of Knowledge quest 44, which allows you to get Pontus in Ni No Kuni 2. With very few people to run your kingdom’s fish market, adding Pontus can help out quite a bit. This article covers the Ni No Kuni 2 Pontus quest 44 so you can add him to your kingdom.

Pontus’s Ocean of Knowledge Quest

  • Challenge 1 – Blimpfish
  • Challenge 2 – Pincushion Coral
  • Challenge 3 – Seasilk

The Pontus quest begins in Hydropolis, west (left) of Kardia Square, after you’ve completed chapter five of the main story. There are quite a few side quests that appear on the Hydropolis map, and Pontus is one of them. Once you speak to Pontus, he’ll ask you to bring him a poisonous fish, but won’t tell you which one. It’s unlikely you have it in your inventory unless you’ve gone out of your way to pick one up.

What Pontus is asking for is the Blimpfish, which can be found while sailing the high seas on the boat, collected from the Fresher Fish Market in your kingdom (as one of the items sent to your kingdom store), or purchased from the Taverna Kalamari food stand located in Hydropolis, on the north side of Nautes Harbor (one of the two food stands in Hydropolis).

Bring the Blimpfish back to Pontus and he will ask for a piece of poisonous coral. You need to bring him Pincushion Coral, which you probably picked up when you made your way through the Abyss, but it can also be found in Makronos. If you don’t have this item in your inventory yet, just make a quick run through the Abyss again until you find it. This can also be collected from the Fresh Fish Market in your kingdom or bought from Swift Solutions for 6 tokens.

Deliver the Pincushion Coral to Pontus and he will ask for one last item, a piece of silky seaweed. He is referring to seasilk seaweed, and there are a couple of places you can pick this up from. The easiest is if you’ve already built a Fresh Fish Market in your kingdom and placed a citizen there so you can collect items from it. If you’ve already done this, you can get a seasilk in your kingdom store and transfer it to your inventory.

Ni No Kuni 2 Pontus Seasilk

If you haven’t built a Fresh Fish Market or just haven’t received a seasilk in the store yet, you can find one while sailing the high seas. Depending on how much you’ve been sailing, you may already have one, but it’s generally much easier to just station someone in your Fresh Fish Market and collect it that way.

Hand over the seasilk and Pontus will finally join your kingdom. He is most suitable for any of the fish markets in your kingdom, so be sure to place him there! If you’re looking for more citizens or any other information, we’ve got plenty of articles in our Ni No Kuni 2 game hub!
