How to Make Paper in Minecraft

Paper is one of the most essential items in the modern world, so of course, it’s going to be important in Minecraft as well. Luckily, it’s super simple to make. To make paper in Minecraft, you’ll need to collect three sugar canes. Once you have those in hand, follow the steps below to begin crafting:

  1. Open the Crafting Table
  2. Place three sugar canes into the middle row of the grid
  3. Take the paper and move it to your inventory

As you can see, the process of crafting paper in Minecraft is incredibly simple and easily repeatable. If you’re worried about inventory space, you’ll be able to stack 64 of them into one tiny slot, so holding a large amount won’t take up much space. Further, it won’t be hard to track down sugar cane if you feel the need to make paper in abundance. If you’re not familiar with the plant, it is tall, slender, and green, you’ll typically find it near sources of water.

Aside from crafting, another big focus in Minecraft is exploration, so it’s also worth noting that you can find paper in the game as well. While it probably is easier to simply craft it, paper can be found in the following locations:

  • Stronghold
  • Shipwreck
  • Village

It’s great that you know how to make paper (and find it), but it’s not going to do you a lot of good if you don’t know what to do with it. There are a handful of items that require paper, but only a few are deemed essential. For example, you can use paper to make a map, which will be quite important if you’re directionally challenged. Another example is a book, which will be essential if you plan on doing any enchantments.
