Is Zagreus in Hades 2?

Where's Melinoe's brother?

Any player familiar with the first Hades title will easily recognize the name Zagreus. He was the main character in Hades and became a cult hit as Supergiant Games managed to deliver a blockbuster hit. Naturally, many players have wondered if Zagreus, the son of Hades, is present in Hades 2.

Is Zagreus Present in Hades 2?

In Hades 2, you play as Melinoe, the daughter of Hades and Persephone, and there’s no way to play as the protagonist from the first game. However, he’s present in a way, and you might have seen him depending on your in-game progression.

In fact, he fits right into Melinoe’s crusade against her grandfather Chronos, who has managed to manipulate time. In a particular dream, Melinoe gains control over Hades and discovers that Chronos has managed to freeze many of the gods in a time capsule. One of them includes our hero from the first Hades game.

This doesn’t necessarily clear the air about whether Zagreus is physically present within the game (if you ignore Melinoe’s dream), but chances are that he’s involved in some capacity. However, it will take at least some time for the community to reach the end game and discover what awaits Melinoe.

Interestingly, he’s also located in a family portrait present in Melinoe’s room. However, there’s no clue about where he might be actually situated in Hades 2. Based on the plot, there’s a high chance that Zagreus would appear in the end, but only as an NPC.

Is Zagreus Dead in Hades 2?

One thing is for sure – our hero from the first game isn’t dead. At least, no plot points as of now have hinted at such an outcome. If anything, Melinoe’s main objective is to save her family and the other gods from what Chronos has done.

Do note that the game is still in early access, and the storyline is also being developed along with the other parts. Hence, there’s always a possibility of our hero returning in a playable capacity in the future as well. The early access is off to a rampaging start, and Supergiant Games could manage to make the sequel an even bigger hit than the first title.
