Is the Premium Event Card Worth it in Destiny 2 Solstice 2023? – Answered

Are the upgraded rewards enough to make a splash?

It’s that time of year again – you know, really hot. The annual Destiny 2 Solstice event returns for another celebration of the achievements of all Guardians and the Summer Solstice. Appropriately timed with the Season of the Deep’s fishing and underwater antics, the Solstice embodies the essence of summertime with floaties, bonfires, and glowy armor sets. As with most limited-time Events in Destiny 2, a premium upgrade of the event card is available with some instant goodies up for grabs. But is it worth it? Let’s find out if you should spend your hard-earned Silver on the Destiny 2 Solstice Premium Event Card in 2023.

Should You Buy the Destiny 2 Solstice Premium Event Card?

Like most limited-time event cards in Destiny 2, the Solstice card will cost you 1,000 Silver, or roughly $10 USD, to upgrade to the premium version. So, what does that 1,000 Silver get you?

The thing about these Premium Event cards is that you’re only guaranteed a few items upon purchase, while the rest of them must be purchased via in-game tickets you earn by completing challenges. That’s already a big red war banner to me, but I digress.

By upgrading the Solstice 2023 Event card, you’ll instantly unlock the Liberated Fish exotic emote, Sandrail exotic vehicle, and the Arboreal Refuge legendary shader.

While the Liberated Fish emote might tug at a few nostalgic heartstrings, it looks more like a catfish than an orca to me. I don’t want to free that thing, I want to eat it! That being said, it’s probably the best out of the three rewards you’re guaranteed to receive.

The Sandrail sparrow is decent if you’re into that makeshift go-kart kind of look, while the Arboreal Refuge shader just looks like grass – something Destiny 2 loves to remind me that I haven’t touched in quite a while.

As far as the rewards you’re able to unlock with Tickets, in my opinion, they’re all pretty wack. You’ve got a transmat effect, ghost projection, another emote, and a ghost skin. The Flotation Shell is probably my favorite of the bunch, dawning your little buddy with floaties and a snorkel so it can join in on the summertime fun with you. Everyone knows that the best emotes are the multiplayer ones, and the Water Balloon one doesn’t fall into that category.

All in all, I’d recommend giving the Solstice 2023 Premium card a pass.
