Is Hogwarts Legacy On Nintendo Switch Good To Play?

Hogwarts Legacy on the Nintendo Switch is a surprisingly good port, with a few general drawbacks that should be expected with the hardware. If you’ve already played Hogwarts Legacy and want a way to play it on the go, or it’s your first time experiencing the game, you’re in for a portable treat.

The first question that fans will likely ask about is the framerate. Seeing how poorly games like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet performed on the hardware, does Hogwarts Legacy run better? Surprisingly, it does. It runs at an acceptable 30FPS most of the time, with the occasional dip when the action picks up, which is an admirable feat from the team.

Visuals, on the other hand, are a bit rougher than their current generation counterparts. A lot of the environmental detail has been sacrificed to ensure that the game can run well on the aging hardware, but for a portable console with power roughly equal to the Xbox 360/PS3, it’s impressive that it looks as nice as it does.

One of the other big features that Hogwarts Legacy brought to current generation hardware is a seamless open world, allowing you to explore every nook and cranny without seeing a loading screen. Hogwarts Legacy on the Switch did have to do away with this particular feature, implementing loading screens that can take, on average, 30 to 50 seconds to bring a new area into the picture. Entering Hogsmead, for example, now requires a bit of loading.

All things said and considered, however, Hogwarts Legacy is an admirable port on the Nintendo Switch. Sure, it doesn’t look as pretty as its PS5 and Xbox Series X|S counterpart, but the ability to take this magical world on the go is impressive, even with the little caveats that made their way into this version. If you’re an aspiring witch or wizard who loves to play their favorite games on their Nintendo Switch, it’s worth your time and effort, blemishes.

Whether this is your first time playing, or you’re looking to create Voldemort for your next subsequent playthrough, be sure to check out our Hogwarts Legacy section below to get plenty of helpful tips and tricks that will make your adventure one to remember.
