This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Although smoke grenades were sent to the vault in the most recent Fortnite update, brand new Remote Explosives have come to take their place. Remote Explosives are basically C4 bombs that can be used to topple buildings and leave explosive surprises for enemy players to stumble upon. These C4 Remote Explosives will have varying degrees of impact depending on how you use them. This guide will explain everything you need to know about Remote Explosives in Fortnite, including how to use and detonate C4 in Fortnite on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Remote Explosives, also known as C4, are rare (blue) drops that can be found within Supply Llamas, Treasure Chests, Supply Drops, and as Floor Loot in Fortnite Battle Royale.

Despite being able to use C4 to setup traps for your enemies, C4 itself does not count as a trap. C4 takes up an inventory slot, just like any other bomb or explosive equipment item. C4 Remote Explosives come in stacks of four, with a maximum of 10.

How to Detonate C4 in Fortnite

C4 is a type of sticky bomb that can be tossed onto an object and detonated from a distance using remote detonation. Detonating C4 in Fortnite is a two-step process.

First, you must throw the C4 where you want it to go by pressing R2 (PS4), RT (Xbox One), or Left Mouse Button (PC). C4 will stick to anything you throw it on, such as walls, ceilings, and floors. Holding down this button causes an arch to appear, allowing you to aim where you want to throw the C4.

To detonate C4 in Fortnite, simply press the “Aim Down Sights” button, which by default is L2 (PS4), LT (Xbox One), or Right Mouse Button (PC).

Note that if you swapped to another weapon after tossing C4, you won’t be able to detonate the C4 until you switch back.

Tips for Using C4 in Fortnite

Now that you know how to detonate C4 in Fortnite, here are a few tips to keep in mind when using these Remote Explosives:

  • C4 will explode upon taking damage. This means your C4 can detonate early if someone shoots it, so be careful where you plant your C4. Try to avoid throwing C4 in areas with a lot of gunfire.
  • C4 explodes in the order it’s thrown in. If you toss out multiple C4 bricks, they will explode in the order you threw them out when you go to detonate them. Line up your C4 for an explosive chain reaction.
  • C4 doesn’t do much damage to players. Surprisingly, Remote Explosives aren’t that lethal in Fortnite. Prioritize strategically blowing up walls, ladders, doors, and other player-built objects to make the most of your C4.
  • C4 requires proper timing. There’s a slight delay from the time you hit detonate to the time the C4 actually explodes, so keep this in mind when detonating Remote Explosives in Fortnite.

Now that you know how to use and detonate C4 in Fortnite, you’ll be ready to create an explosive surprise for your enemies the next time you come across a stack of Remote Explosives.
