How to Use Tera Shards in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Tera Shards are an all-new item in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that work in tandem with the new battle mechanic Terastalize. Terastalizing a Pokemon lets them change types based on their Tera type. It’s a weird gimmick, but one that Scarlet and Violet double down on throughout the game. You might come across Tera Shards, which have a unique purpose. Here’s how to use Tera Shards in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Use Tera Shards in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Competing in Tera Raid battles will often net your some Tera Shards of different types. You can find Tera Shards of all 16 types in the game. What do they do, though?

Well, Tera Shards can be used to change a Pokemon’s Tera type. So, for instance, if you have a Pikachu with an electric Tera Type, but you want it to have something more interesting, you can use your Tera Shards to change its Tera Type to something new. That way, when you’re in a battle and Terastalize, you can change up your Pokemon’s type for the duration.

To use Tera Shards, you must complete the Normal gym challenge in Medali. After completing this gym, you can take the Tera Shards to the cook at the Treasure Eatery. Here he will cook the Tera Shards into a dish and serve it to the Pokemon whose Tera Type you want to change.

You need 50 Tera Shards of a specific type in order to make the dish. Upon first talking to the cook, he will give you 50 normal Tera Shards to change a Pokemon’s Tera Type to normal if you wish.

After that, you’ll need to complete many Tera Raid Battles of the type you’re looking for to get the shards you need.
