How To Unlock and Refill Medkits in Hyper Light Breaker

You're going to need it!

The early hours of Hyper Light Breaker can be challenging for players, partly due to the lack of healing items in the character’s kit. This means that you’ll be dying a lot and hoping for enemies to drop healing consumables, or perform perfect parries. The game doesn’t explain the healing and medkit system well, so we’ll guide you on how to unlock a usable Medkit and how to refill it in Hyper Light Breaker.

How to Unlock the Medkit in Hyper Light Breaker

First things first, players need to unlock the Medkit which they can use to heal while they’re exploring the overgrowth. By default, you’ll see a “0” on the Medkit icon next to your health bar.

  • At The Cursed Outpost, interact with Pherus Bit and navigate to the second menu
  • Here, you’ll be able to unlock Medkits by spending a Golden Ration on “Medkit Capacity” which is a Tier 1 EXE. This expands the capacity of Medkits from 0 to 1, meaning you can carry one Medkit at a time.

As you progress through Hyper Light breaker, you’ll be able to increase the amount of Medkits you can carry by integrating with Pherus Bit.

Once you have unlocked the Medkit, you can fill it out using the following methods. Again, you don’t start a run with Medkits automatically, the slot has to be filled through either of the methods below.

Medigems Method

Medigems are a currency that is collected by interacting with a specific type of plant present commonly in the Overgrowth. It has illuminated leaves/petals and will display the “Interact” prompt once players get close to it. This is what it looks like:

Once you have 5 Medigems, you can interact with a Shrine on the map, and convert Medigems into a Mediket recharge. This can be done twice during a run, and the price for a recharge will increase to 8 Medigems. You will need to visit a different Shrine to get the second refill.

If you have spare Medigems, some of those will be retained if you die and will be converted into a Medkit before you start a new run.

Picking up Medigems also grants you some HP, so keep an eye out for the plant if you’re low on health.

Vendors in Overgrowth

Apart from the Medigems, players can also interact with different vendors in the Overgrowth who sell Medkits for Bright Blood which you’ll get plenty of by killing enemies and smashing crates. In most cases, these vendors are in locations that require a key to access. Keys can be found in different treasure chests across the map, by defeating crowns and vendors.

Since this is an early access title, we might see changes to the system. Currently, most players aren’t happy with the fact that you don’t even have a single healing item. This can make the early hours feel overly punishing. Additionally, the in-game tutorials don’t exactly explain how the system works. We hope this is addressed in a patch soon to better reflect this in-game.

Medkits aside, you can also heal a small amount by performing perfect parries, and here is how.
