How to Use Torches in Baldur’s Gate 3

The best way to toggle on and off your torch quickly is by using the Toggle Light Source option which can be found in your Quick Menu. That way, you won’t have to manually open up your inventory each time you want to draw a torch.

As torches inherit the qualities of a weapon, you can’t use them if you are wielding a two-handed weapon. To light up a torch, you can use the Dip function near a fire source. You can also have elemental damage for your other weapons if you dip them into a torch if it’s thrown at the ground. Do know that the effects are temporary, so use them briskly.

Torches can be immensely helpful in Baldur’s Gate 3. Apart from lighting up dark areas, they can also reveal secrets in the world, like interactive objects and spot traps, and even increase damage to vulnerable enemies.

You can buy torches from Traders or acquire them in the world where they are scattered around, placed in Chests, and also near fallen people.

The Baldur’s Gate series had a significant resurgence with its third installment Baldur’s Gate 3. It even ended up winning the Game of the Year award last year. Baldur’s Gate 3 was developed and published by Belgian company Larian Studios. The series is based around the tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons. So there are many dungeon-like environments and similar eerie areas, such as the Underdark. These can often prove difficult to traverse, so that’s where torches come in.

Some characters have an ability called Darkvision that lets the players see in the dark, but if you didn’t select a character from one of those races, you need to rely on torches. Fortunately, they are abundant in the overworld, so you won’t have to look far.
