In Civilization 7, there are several ways to win the game, including indirect methods. One of those methods, which could also pose a challenge, is converting everyone to your chosen religion. Spreading your religion causes several disadvantages to other civilizations, creating discord among their settlements.
Here’s how to spread your religion and convert the enemy’s territory to your beliefs in Civilization 7.
How to Train Missionaries in Civilization 7

Before converting anyone to a religion, you must reach the Exploration age and unlock the Missionary unit. The Exploration Age arrives after the Antiquity Age, and this is where the spread of religion begins. Training Missionaries starts in a city with an active Temple. Temples are normally built to increase Happiness and possibly add some Culture in the future as well.
Once you have a Temple in a city, the Missionary unit will automatically show up in the production tab of the city. Train or spend gold (around 600) to get one. Once trained, you should have your first troop to preach your chosen religion.
Note: Piety must be researched from Civics to pick a religion.

How to Convert a Settlement’s Religion in Civilization 7

To convert a nearby settlement (controlled by another leader), command the Missionary to go to the specific settlement. Once the Missionary reaches the settlement, you can select the “Spread Religion” command as seen in the image.
Converting settlements with zero rural population or that don’t have an existing religion requires only one Missionary charge to influence. Settlements with more established religions would require two Missionary charges as they become harder to convert.
The first civilization to research Piety and train Missionaries gets to spread its religion faster, making it harder for everyone else to catch up.
In Civilization 7, religion is a powerful tool. In the Exploration age, spreading your religion to other settlements may cause revolts. If the settlement gets unhappy because of the spread of a different religion, it’ll go into unrest and revolt. These settlements may sometimes defect to the religion’s founder, presenting an easy way to take over a settlement.
Opponents may use the same strategy on you, so you must always be cautious when your Happiness goes down randomly.

How to Gain Relics in Civilization 7

Acquiring relics naturally happens when you convert a settlement to your religion about your chosen Reliquary belief. When you choose a religion, you can choose a Reliquary belief. Here are the choices and their effects:
Reliquary Belief | Effect |
Ecclesiasticism | +1 relic for first-time conversion of a settlement with 10 urban population. |
Evangelism | +1 relic for first-time conversion of a settlement in distant lands; cannot be a City State. |
Icons | +2 relic for first-time conversion of a City State |
Lay Followers | +1 relic for first-time conversion of a settlement with 10 rural population |
Reliquaries | +1 relic for first-time conversion of a settlement with a Temple or Altar |
The best Reliquary Belief would be Icons. Icons give an additional +1 relic compared to all other Reliquary Beliefs, contingent on the fact that you can convert the City States to your religion. It is much harder to convert a City State than other settlements, making it a tougher challenge to capitalize on the effect.
However, if you get into Piety and start your religion earlier than everyone else, you should have a decent chance of gaining more relics and converting more settlements to your religion.
If religion isn’t your primary focus, Reliquaries and Lay Followers would be the easiest Reliquary Beliefs to fulfill.
