How to Open the Gate in Mariner’s Keep in No Rest For The Wicked

After you pass by the massive fire burning in the courtyard of Mariner’s Keep, fighting through the numerous enemies, including multiple bomb-throwing headaches, you’ll discover two things: a locked door leading deeper into the castle and a gate shut tight against the world. You want the entrance to both.

There’s a key leading into the locked door. It’s the castle’s Mess Hall, where you’ll find Fillmore. He’s the area’s first blacksmith and how you’ll repair your equipment. But more importantly, Fillmore is the reason why the gate is shut tight. He holds the lever to open it!

Slay the enemies surrounding him, then speak with Fillmore to continue with your quest to Sacrament.

Once he’s safe and sound, Fillmore will offer his services as a merchant and blacksmith, allowing you to buy, sell, and repair your items. But he’ll also give you the crank necessary to open the gate.

To access the mechanism, head back out the door from the Mess Hall into the courtyard, where you’ll find a cart leaning up against a wall. You can run up the back of the cart, clambering atop the wall in the back. Be wary, however, atop the wall awaits another bomb-throwing menace, and he’s ready to take you down in close-quarters combat.

Once you beat this opponent, continue along the wall until you come across a dead end. Here, you’ll note a lever mechanism on the right-hand wall. With the item from Fillmore, you can now pull the lever and open the gate. Once you’re done, jump down to the ground level from the dead and walk through the gate.

One last thing: As you walk through the gate, you’ll stumble directly into an axe-wielding maniac who hits hard and fast. He utilizes a leaping attack that’s tough to dodge, and your stamina is likely quite minimal by this point. Use your block and dodge abilities to get around behind him, then strike and move away.

Once you’re done dealing with Mariner’s Keep, why not catch your breath with a bit of fishing?
