Farm in style!

Pelican Town is full of shops you can visit for all your farming needs, like Marnie’s Ranch, the Carpenter’s Shop, the Blacksmith, and even Pierre’s. But there is one thing missing in Pelican Town. A clothing store. Thankfully, you can make clothes yourself using a few in-game features. If you want to switch up your character’s look but don’t know where to start, here’s how to make clothes in Stardew Valley.

What Do I Need to Make Clothes in Stardew Valley?

Clothes can be made by placing 1x Cloth and 1x other items in the Sewing Machine at Haley and Emily’s House. The process itself is very simple, with the hardest part being sourcing the ingredients you need to make your clothes.

How to Make Cloth in Stardew Valley

Cloth is something you can create on your farm, and there are a few ways to do so. You can shear Sheep to collect their Wool if you have a Barn. If you only have a Coop, you can collect Wool from Rabbits. Rabbits don’t require shearing, and they will leave their Wool on the ground along with any Rabbit’s Feet they may have left for you as well.

Once you have your Wool, run it through a Loom to turn it into Cloth. You can craft a Loom out of 60x Wood, 30x Fiber, and 1x Pine Tar.

How to Use the Sewing Machine in Stardew Valley

Cloth is the main component you need to make clothes, but you also need one other item to complete your clothing recipe. The other item you choose will dictate what wearable item you get in return, and picking it is the most enjoyable part of the process.

If you haven’t combined those two particular items before, you won’t know what your clothing item is going to look like until you make it. This can make Tailoring a little more difficult because you run the risk of not liking your item in the end. But the fun is in trying different combinations and seeing what you get! The clothes resemble the second item in some way, usually in color. So, if you want a pink item, combining your Cloth with something pink, like a Pink Cake, for example, will likely make just that.

Once you have your Cloth and another item of choice, head to Haley and Emily’s house on the southern side of town and interact with the Sewing Machine in the small room to the right of the door. Place your Cloth in the box on the left and your other item in the box at the top right of the machine. Press the on button to create your item.

If you’re looking for some suggestions of fun and interesting clothing items to make, try combining Cloth with a piece of Cheese, an Ancient Sword, or Beer and see what items you get in return. There are hundreds of different combinations you can try. You can even create Link from the Legend of Zelda’s outfit with the right combination of items!
