Final Fantasy XIV is one of the longest-running MMOs out there, so it’s no wonder a large number of mods have been made so far. The huge community that has been gathered around the game for years has created numerous mods, and in order to better organize them and have an insight into which ones are enabled or disabled, you’ll need something called TexTools.
You can download the TexTools installer from the official site, and there is an alternative link from Github if you are interested in developing this tool.
How to Install Mods for FFXIV
When you launch TexTools, you will be prompted to navigate to the installation folder for Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn. More specifically, you must locate the following subfolder:
…/FINAL FANTASY XIV – A Realm Reborn/game/sqpack/ffxiv
The above location is the mod management destination folder, so it will be where TexTool finds, stores, and handles mod information. Once installed, FFXIV TexTools will begin monitoring that folder, making it easier to view and manage your mods.
- Once you have set up your Final Fantasy Realm Reborn folder, download mods that you want through Nexus Mods or XIV Mod Archive.
- Next, launch FFXIV TexTools and select any mods in the top left corner. Press the Import ModPacks button, then locate and open the downloaded mod(s).
- Inside the mod folder, you will see a new file menu with all the files automatically ticked. Select Import Mod Pack and watch as the files from the folder are imported. When the popup notification says complete, TexTools has finished importing.
- Your shiny new mod should be available in the FFXIV TexTools Mod List section.
How to Enable or Disable FFXIV Mods
- To enable or disable all mods, go to Batching and press either button. Alternatively, the mod list tool is useful if you need to enable or disable specific mods. Simply locate the one you want to enable or disable, locate the mod pack, and click either button.
- You should use this feature on patch days because game updates can cause compatibility issues. It is standard practice in MMOs. Anyone who has played WoW or ESO knows that they can cause a slew of Lua errors, crash reports, and other problems. It’s a good idea to make a backup of your game because mods can corrupt core game files. Unfortunately, one broken file may necessitate a new download and installation of all 40+ gigabytes of FFXIV!
