Satisfactory 1.0 Dedicated Server Set Up Guide (Windows)

This guide will cover how to set up a dedicated server through Steam and using Windows, though the instructions are virtually the same if you own Satisfactory through the Epic Games Store. Follow the steps below to get your own dedicated server started:

1) Installing the Satisfactory Dedicated Server Client

Before you can host your own server, you’ll need the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client installed. Follow the steps below to download it:

  • On Steam:
    • Go to your Steam Library and search ‘Satisfactory’. Under the Tools category, look for Satisfactory Dedicated Server and install it.

  • On Epic Games:
    • Go to the Epic Store and search ‘Satisfactory’. Select the Satisfactory page and find the DLC & Add-Ons section. Download the Satisfactory Dedicated Server from there.

2) Launch Satisfactory Dedicated Server client

Once the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client is downloaded, you’ll need to launch it to begin the initial setup of your server.

In your Steam Library:

  • Right-click the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client
  • Highlight ‘Manage’
  • Click ‘Browse Local Files’
  • Launch FactoryServer.exe

This will launch a Windows CMD file that will initiate your server. Make sure to allow permissions with Windows Firewall when prompted. This process takes about 30-45 seconds in total.

Note: You should follow this method each time you want to start your dedicated server.

3) Networking and Port Forwarding

Opening specific ports through your router and/or Windows Firewall is required to allow others to join your server. Satisfactory servers use port 7777 by default, and use both TCP and UDP protocols. If you’re unfamiliar with port forwarding, don’t worry; this process is easier than it looks. Follow the steps below to configure your networking correctly:

Opening ports through Windows Defender Firewall

  • In the Windows search bar, type ‘firewall’ and open Windows Defender Firewall
  • Click ‘Advanced Settings’ on the left

  • On the left, click Inbound Rules
  • On the right, click New Rule

This will open up the New Inbound Rule Wizard, which you will use to create new rules for both TCP and UPD protocols. In the wizard:

  • Select Port and click next.

  • Select TCP
  • Select Specific local ports and type 7777, click next.
  • Select Allow the connection and click next.
  • Keep all three options checked and click next.

  • You can name the rule for easier identification on the next page. After that, click finish.

Note: This process creates a rule for the TCP protocol only. You must repeat this process to create a rule for the UDP protocol as well.

After creating rules in Windows Defender Firewall, you will likely need to open ports through your internet router as well. This process is roughly the same as before, but because each router is different, accessing your router settings will vary depending on brand and model.

Opening ports through your router

First, you will need to locate both your Internal IP and External IP addresses.

  • To locate your Internal IP:
    • In the Windows search bar, type ‘cmd’ and press enter.
    • In the Command window, type ipconfig and press enter.
    • In the text, look for IPv4 Address – this is your internal IP address.
  • To locate your External IP:
    • The easiest method to find your external IP address is by searching ‘what is my ip’ on Google or by using websites like WhatIsMyIPAddress.com.

Now that you have both of your IP addresses, it’s time to open up the port on your router. If you are unfamiliar with accessing the Port Forwarding settings on your router, you can use the How to Port Forward guide from the No IP Support Center. This guide has instructions on how to login and configure ports for most routers.

Once you have access to your router’s Port Forwarding settings:

  • Open port 7777 for both TCP and UDP protocols.
  • When asked for an IP address, enter your Internal IP.
  • Save the settings and exit.

Now that you’ve opened the port on both Windows Defender Firewall and your router, you’re ready for people to join your server!

4) Initial Server Setup and Configuration

Satisfactory server configuration is performed within the in-game Server Manager. To begin launching and configuring your server, launch Satisfactory and click Server Manager on the main menu.

In the following prompts:

  • Click Add Server at the bottom of the screen
  • For the address, enter your External IP address and click confirm.
  • Name your server and create a password.

Once your server is added to the Server Manager list, you can begin configuring various settings by using the tabs at the top of the screen. When you’re ready to start, click the Create Game tab and select your starting world, then click Start Game.

That’s all there is to it! You can now enjoy your dedicated Satisfactory server, and your friends can join by heading to the Server Manager section on the main menu and adding your server to their own lists by entering your External IP address. Keep in mind that you must keep the Satisfactory Dedicated Server client open at all times for your server to stay online, but you can close the actual game client at any time.
