How to Get the Great Katana in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Every Katana user's dream weapon!

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree adds close to a hundred new weapons to the game, and some of these hit like a truck. If you’re a Katana user, the expansion has a great surprise for you. This is one of the best weapons you can get super early, nearly minutes after you start the expansion. Here is how you can get the Great Katana in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Great Katana Location

After you start the expansion, and sit at the first grace site, you want to make your way north, and follow the road marked on the map.

You can completely avoid fighting enemies in the path, and make your way to another site of grace where you’ll meet Freyja and Leda. Again, sitting at the site is optional for now if you’re in a hurry to grab the Great Katana. Continue following the road until you see a small lake on your left.

Descend towards it, and you’ll see the Ghostflame Dragon slumbering in the distance in the lake. Right next to it is a corpse with the Great Katana. You don’t need to wake up the dragon at all, just grab the Katana and fast-travel to your initial site of grace.

Great Katana Weapon Stats

The Great Katana is a slashing/piercing weapon that uses the Overhead Stance ash of war.

The Great Katana scales off both Strength and Dexterity and causes a blood loss buildup of 55. The ash of war puts you in a stance that you can follow up with a single strike with R1 and three strikes with R2. It has great reach, a solid poke, and an extremely powerful jumping attack.

It’s one of the best weapons in the expansion, and the fact that you can get it in the first few minutes makes it all the more accessible. If Katanas aren’t your thing, maybe the Beast Claw is what you’re looking for. For more on Shadow of the Erdtree, make sure to follow our dedicated section.
