Empires of the Undergrowth’s story mode brings a lot of different features from a typical skirmish or custom game. It has its own progression system where you will need Royal Jellies to unlock and upgrade your ants and your colony. These upgrades are crucial to finishing all the other chapters or experiments in the story mode. So, you’ll end up needing a ton of Royal Jellies, and here’s a quick guide on how to get them fast in Empires of the Undergrowth.
Where to Get Royal Jelly in Empires of the Undergrowth
On the upgrade screen when you are on your main colony in story mode, you’ll see different ants you can unlock. These unlocks cost hundreds of Royal Jellies, but they improve your colony’s strength and efficiency. At the start of the story mode, you won’t be able to upgrade or unlock anything yet.
You have to go through the 1.1 or 1.2 story modes to get some Royal Jelly, Food, and Territory to improve your main colony. Finish these 1.1 and 1.2 stages and you can get 40-60 Royal Jellies from both. If you change the difficulty, you can get even more Royal Jellies. You can also repeat the stages if you don’t have enough Royal Jellies to upgrade your main colony yet.
However, the best way to get Royal Jelly is to unlock the challenge mode of the stage by finishing it first. The Royal Jelly bonus goes from +33 (Medium difficulty) Royal Jellies to +78 Royal Jellies in the first stages. You can also play on a higher difficulty and not in challenge mode, but it does give fewer Royal Jellies, and the difficulty is much harder. In short, it isn’t efficient enough.
If you are having problems finishing the challenge mode, you can turn it off and play on the easier difficulties until you can get some more upgrades to your colony. You can also practice in a free-play custom game to get a hang of things.
