How to Get Legendary Gear in Diablo 4

Skulking around the Fields of Hatred just to get that red-stained loot

There’s nothing like being all decked out in red. Especially as your level creeps higher and the enemies start hitting harder. But how do you even get Legendary Gear in Diablo IV, and is there an easy way to get it?

Legendary Gear isn’t the rarest armor type in the game, though, as its name suggests, it is quite powerful. Not only does Legendary Gear get better enhanced stats, it’s likely to have a buff and at least one empty socket for you to put your most precious gemstone in. Here are all the ways you can get it.

Before level 25, Legendary Gear will often drop at the end of campaign missions, usually after defeating a boss enemy. Some Legendary Items are guaranteed, like Vigo’s Protecting Amulet, while other items will all boil down to luck. The drop chance for Legendary gear is the same on World Tier I and II, but the drop rates increase once you hit Tiers Nightmare and Torment.

The Fields of Hatred have an increased chance of dropping Legendary Gear. This might be in part because of the high concentration of Elite Enemies and Treasure Goblins, but I highly recommend going to the Fields of Hatred to try to grab Legendary Gear early on. Though, it’s important to note that killing a Treasure Goblin does not guarantee a Legendary. But I really wish it did, I’ve killed a small country’s worth of those bag-wielding buggers.

Butchers, on the other hand, seem to guarantee a Legendary Gear item drop. But you’ll have to determine for yourself whether it’s worth it. These rare monsters hit hard and can be a pain to whittle down.

Post-Campaign, Legendary Gear becomes very common. You’ll be able to get it through a myriad of activities, from Whispers of the Dead, Nightmare Dungeons, and the Helltide. Many of these activities will also allow you to select which equipment slot your reward will be in, making farming Legendary gear easier than ever.

For that reason, I recommend you complete the campaign as early as possible. Doing so will net you the most benefits for your gear and will also get you the coveted mount that will make traveling around Sanctuary much easier.
