Farming Heartwood Pax Dei

How to Get Heartwood in Pax Dei

These trees all look alike!

Pax Dei has several “tiers” for some of its resources. The most basic ones are Iron Ores or Sapwood, where there are Impure Iron Ores to Iron Ores and Sapwood to Heartwood. Both are confusing, but farming Heartwood takes the cake. Some trees that look eerily similar sometimes drop Sapwood, and some drop Heartwood. Here are the details on farming Heartwood in Pax Dei and how to differentiate between Sapwood and Heartwood trees.

Where to Get Heartwood in Pax Dei

When you have about 5-10 hours of playtime in Pax Dei, you have probably chopped hundreds of trees for Sapwood. You might have encountered some trees that are “too hard” for your simple chopping axe. These trees have a high chance to drop Heartwood and you need to upgrade your chopping axe to the Iron Chopping Axe version to farm it.

Farm those Impure Iron Ores to get Iron Ingots and start upgrading all your tools. Once you have the Iron Chopping Axe, I suggest farming all the trees you can find in your area. With the Iron Chopping Axe, those trees you used to chop only take 2 or 4 swings to farm. However, the trees that were “too hard” to chop before will take 8 or more swings before going down.

Some of these trees drop Heartwood while some still drop an increased number of Sapwood. It is weird. From my experience, there’s a spot near my base in the Shire that was “too hard” to chop, but when I upgraded to the Iron Chopping Axe, it gave me Sapwood initially. I was surprised one time when it just suddenly dropped Heartwood and it dropped Heartwood every time I chopped it. There’s a possibility that it could be tied to your Woodcutting skill (mine was at 25+ at this time).

However, at this Woodcutting skill level, I was able to experiment with some trees that took 8+ swings to farm and drop only 21+ Sapwood. So far, the trees that gave me Heartwood have always dropped Heartwood ever since, and I have used a waypoint to mark them. These trees respawn quickly, so you can use your waypoints to mark vital resources around the world.

What is Heartwood Used For?

Heartwood is mainly used to create Fine Wooden Planks and Fine Wood Beams, which unlock several new recipes and even the Pottery Kiln production building.

You’ll need this Heartwood resource in the future, as it is the next tier of Sapwood. However, it doesn’t mean that Sapwood won’t be needed in the future. You’ll still need those thousands and thousands of Charcoal for all the smelting, right?
