How to Get and Use the Lockpicker in Lethal Company

Unlock every door in existence, but at what cost?

It’s easy to find monsters while exploring facilities in Lethal Company and attempt to run away to safety, only to encounter an unexpected locked door. A lockpicker can be handy in these situations, so I’m here to tell you exactly where to buy one and how to use it.

Where to Buy the Lockpicker in Lethal Company

Lockpickers are available in your ship’s terminal store for 20 scrap. You can search the store by interacting with the terminal, entering store, and then typing lockpicker before confirming your selection. You can then pick up the lockpicker during your next item delivery.

Once you purchase the lockpicker, a delivery ship will appear on the next moon you visit. You’ll know it’s nearby when a song plays reminiscent of an ice cream truck’s jingle. Once the supply pod appears, interact with it to drop your lockpicker to the floor, which you can pick up and keep in your inventory or store in your ship’s storage.

How to Use the Lockpicker in Lethal Company

You can use the lockpicker to open locked doors while exploring facilities. It has infinite uses, allowing you to open a door, venture forward, and open another after a short cooldown.

However, it has two main downsides: it uses an inventory slot and weighs 16 pounds.

During most missions, you’ll typically hold items like a flashlight, walkie-talkie, or shovel in your inventory, giving you only two or three extra spaces to carry items back to your ship. With a lockpicker, you’ll have even fewer inventory slots, making it much harder to deliver everything back before outdoor monsters appear.

Furthermore, it weighs 16 pounds, making it heavier than a key. In some cases, this weight may be the difference between escaping danger or an enemy catching you, especially since you move slower the more you weigh.

Should You Buy the Lockpicker in Lethal Company?

Generally speaking, the lockpicker is a helpful but not essential tool on most missions unless you encounter multiple locked doors you want to access. If you’re playing with several people, having one person carry the lockpicker can help inventory management. Otherwise, it’s worth dropping and buying again later if you have extra money, as the excess weight from the lockpicker can make escaping from outdoor enemies much more challenging.
