How to Finish the Find the Source Quest in Escape from Tarkov

A free Violet Keycard for your troubles!

After going through Streets of Tarkov for the previous quest, you are now going back to The Lab again to finish the Find the Source quest in Escape from Tarkov. The quest is locked behind a key and room which can’t be bought on the flea market, but luckily, it has a 100% chance to spawn in the same area. Here’s how to find the key and finish the Find the Source quest in Escape from Tarkov so you get one step closer to the finale of the 2024 Halloween event.

How to Complete the Find the Source Task in Escape from Tarkov

To finish the Find the Source task, you must complete the following objectives while surviving in raid:

  • Access the sealed room with the virus in The Lab
  • Locate and obtain the diary inside the room
  • Hand over the found item

You are looking for a diary with multiple possible locations and need to safely extract it from The Lab. Since you need to survive and extract, you’ll want a good loadout for dealing with zombies. A semi-automatic shotgun with a good back weapon is good enough since the risk is extremely high for this quest.

The next thing you need is two Zagustin stims. You want to use one as you start the match so you are immune to the virus and bleeding. You are going to use the second Zagustin for when you are going to run out of the room and make your way to the extraction. Zagustin makes you immune to the virus, but it doesn’t cure it. You need to use it before you get hit by the zombies to make use of its effects.

The next thing you need is the TerraGroup Labs Residential Unit Keycard, which has a 100% spawn rate in The Lab. You cannot buy it from the flea market, so you need to get it in a raid.

For all the spawn locations of the TerraGroup Labs Residential Unit Keycard, you can check our other guide on it because there are 11 possible spawns for it. Luckily, all the spawns are inside the containment block, so you don’t have to go far for all the spawns.

All Diary Spawn Locations in The Lab

Once you have the TerraGroup Labs Residential Unit Keycard, you want to go to residential unit 07, which is located in the tiny compartment straight from the main entrance of the containment block. The door even has a 07 mark next to it, and you just need to swipe the keycard to open the room.

1st Diary Spawn

Once you are inside the room, there are five possible spawns for the diary. The first one is on the floor next to the counter close to the bed on the right.

2nd Diary Spawn

The next spawn is by the desk and next to the books and the plant.

3rd Diary Spawn

The next spawn is under the top bunk bed mattress on the left.

4th Diary Spawn

The fourth possible spawn is next to the pillow on the left bunk bed.

5th Diary Spawn

The last spawn is by the other counter next to the left bunk bed. It is also on the floor next to the counter. Once you have the diary, you can still loot the room because there are several high-value item spawns inside.

The beanbags, shelf, beds, and table all have possible spawns for Bronze Lions, Bitcoins, and more.

If it is getting a bit dangerous, you can just run out to the nearest or safest extraction which should be the medical block elevator just below. The entrance of the containment block is literally beside the staircase going to the basement so it is easy to get to the medical block elevator.
