Before you start the evolution process, you’ll have to find out whether you have a Phony or Authentic Sinistea. To figure this out, place Sinistea in your first party slot and press the ZR button on your controller, allowing you to see the Pokemon in the Overworld. Angle your camera so you can see the bottom of Sinistea, and look for a blue marking along the teacup rim. If there is a mark here, you have an Authentic Sinistea! If there’s no mark, it’s a Phony.

Knowing whether you have a Phony or Authentic Sinistea will determine how you evolve into Polteageist. To evolve a Phony Sinistea, you need the Cracked Pot item, while an Authentic one needs the Chipped Pot. There are two different methods to gaining these two items:

  • Head to Porto Marinada after defeating the Cascarrafa Gym Leader. Go to the Auction area and look for a vendor selling Cracked or Chipped Pots. If you don’t see one, you’ll have to leave and return later. This is the only way to get the Chipped Pot, but you can also get a Cracked Pot using this strategy.
  • Go to Socarrat Trail toward the Shrine door. There’s a tree southwest of the shrine entrance with a Pokeball near it. This Pokeball contains a Cracked Pot.

Once you have a Cracked or Chipped Pot, go into your inventory and scroll through the options until you get to Other Items. Find your pot and use the item on your Sinistea. By doing this, it’ll automatically evolve into Polteageist!
