The Gerudo Desert is filled with dangerous creatures, the most dangerous of which are the Lanmola. There are three Lanmola lurking in the sands of the Gerudo Desert, each stronger than the last. The last Lanmola, in particular, is part of the Wild Sandstorms side quest, where you will take it down to help the Gerudo. Lanmola are particularly hard to track and even trickier to take down. If you’re struggling to find or defeat the Lanmola, we’ve got everything you need in this Zelda Echoes of Wisdom guide.
Where to Find the Lanmola in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
While there are three Lanmola in total, you can only defeat two of them at first. Once you defeat the first two, you can visit the Barracks in Gerudo Town and begin the Wild Sandstorms side quest. Then, you will be able to track down the last Lanmola and defeat it to retrieve your Heart Piece.
The Green Lanmola can be found slightly northeast of the Oasis in the Desert. The area is difficult to pinpoint since it is shrouded in a sandstorm, rendering your map useless. But keep heading in that direction, and when you feel the ground rumble beneath your feet and see a pit of quicksand appear, you will know you’re in the right place.
The second Lanmola is northwest of the Oasis. It is a little closer to the Oasis than the last one.
Once you defeat those two and return to the Barracks of Gerudo City to begin the Wild Sandstorms quest, the last Lanmola will appear. That one is in the same location the Green Lanmola was, just northeast of the Oasis.
How to Defeat the Lanmola in Echoes of Wisdom
The first thing you need to do before setting off into the Desert to defeat the Lanmola is purchase and equip the Gerudo Sandals. While you can defeat the Lanmola without them, it will be far more difficult. The Gerudo Sandals prevent you from sinking into the quicksand that the Lanmola creates so you can move freely during the battle.
You can purchase a pair of Gerudo Sandals from the shop in Gerudo Town for 400 Rupees.
The three Lanmola vary in strength but not in their move set, making them all quite predictable. However, there is a strategy to taking them down; until you figure it out, they can seem nearly indestructible.
The first attack the Lanmola will send your way is a bunch of flying boulders as they burst from the sand. Dodge these and follow the Lanmola until you are within reach of its tail. Use Bind on the Lanmola’s tail and pull back as the beast is trying to bury itself deeper in the ground. Eventually, you will wrench the Lanmola from the sand, leaving it defenseless for a couple of seconds.
Take this opportunity to activate Sword Fighter Form and summon your strongest Echoes to slash away at the Lanmola’s soft underbelly. Depending on your strength and your Echoes, this might be enough to take out the weaker Lanmola. If not, simply repeat the process until the Lanmola is finally slain.
In addition to the flying rocks, you will also have to keep your eyes out for the Lanmola’s minions. They rarely fight alone, and the last Lanmola, in particular, has plenty of Scorpion enemies to deal with as well. Make sure you keep summoning your Echoes to take them out, even when the Lanmola isn’t vulnerable, to maintain control of the battlefield.
The most important time to steer clear of the Lanmola’s attacks is when you’re Binding. Getting hit by a boulder or an enemy while you are pulling the Lanmola out of the ground will cause you to lose your hold, so try strafing left and right to avoid any oncoming attacks!
What Do You Get For Defeating the Lanmola
The third Lanmola will explode into the Heart Piece when you defeat it, leaving you free to pick it up. But don’t forget to head back to the Gerudo City Barracks to officially end the side quest!
You will receive a Gold Sash as a reward from the Gerudo, which, when equipped, prevents you from being blown around by strong winds. This is particularly useful when you’re dealing with a lot of Ghirros or Wind Cannons.
By default, you can only equip one accessory at a time. And with so many good ones, you will constantly be switching them out. You can, however, visit the Great Fairy at the Great Fairy Shrine in the center of Lake Hylia. She will unlock more accessory slots for you so you can equip more accessories at once.
