How to Cross Water Without Dying in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Avoid the brine.

Nothing can stop your path as quickly as a river in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and sometimes you might just want to cross water without dying. Considering how deadly any random river can be, I’ll outline how you can bypass it with one ability.

The only way to cross water without dying is to use the Levitate ability on a Mage Vocation character. Levitate will let any Mage with a high enough Vocation float mid-air after holding the jump button. You can then continue to rise or move forward without utilizing the ground below. With an easy hold of the jump, you can easily cross rivers and deep ponds, and your party will be able to open chests much easier when they are on a perch.

To get the Levitate ability, you need to unlock the Mage Vocation at any Vocation Guild for your main character. This needs to be done for yourself and not your Pawns if you want to cross any of the dangerous water in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Simply unlock the Mage Vocation with an easy 100 Discipline and then start leveling it up until you have access to more abilities. Levitate should be available after the first few levels in the Mage Vocation.

Aside from the Levitate ability, there is no true way to cross water without dying in Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you attempt to swim, your character will get destroyed by the Brine and you will either die or respawn with some lower health in a closer location. You see this in action as soon as you complete the prologue for the game. So if you don’t have an easy Mage Vocation to make use of, I suggest looking for alternate routes on the map.

While you’re at the guild, take a look at all the Vocations available in the game.
