On your way from the second to the third Shrine on Great Sky Island, after you have learned how to ride in the Zonai Fan-powered Minecarts and have reunited the first Koroks, you will encounter a seemingly insurmountable obstacle. The rail leading to the next floating island seems to be broken, and if you put a cart on it when you get to the broken part, it will fall into the abyss… So, how do you overcome this problem? Here’s how to cross the Great Sky Island broken rail in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How to Cross Broken Rails on Great Sky Island in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Although Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t have explicitly defined tutorials, players will learn most of the mechanics the old-school way, which is exactly the case with this obstacle. When the situation is not ideal, improvising is necessary – an approach that will become very familiar to you as you progress in the game. Anyhow, I’m sure there are other ways to overcome this problem, but for now, I’ll list two that worked for me.
Find the Hook and use the Ultrahand to stick it to the side of the cart; you can even attach multiple hooks. Put the cart on the rails, jump in, and hit the fan with your weapon to start it. Once that cart reaches the broken part of the right rail, and starts falling. Hopefully, at least one hook will attach to the left rail and eventually get you to the other side.

Another easier solution that I found is to immediately hang the entire Zonai Fan-powered cart like a hanger on the left rail, get in and activate the Zonai Fan by hitting it. The Minecart will be tilted, and the ride might be a little bit jittery all the way through, but it will eventually get you to the other side.
This first non-standard problem will force you to think a little outside the box, which is great preparation for everything that comes later in the game when it comes to crafting various transportation contraptions. Have fun!
