Enshrouded has multiple items that serve as sources of illumination and decoration. Light and fire provide players with comfort, and these are essential to have at your base and inside rooms. One of the earlier forms of illumination in Enshrouded comes from the starting workbench in the form of candles and torches. Here is how you can craft candles in Enshrouded, and light up your humble abode.

Crafting Candles in Enshrouded

Candles can be crafted at the basic workbench as soon as you get access to a fire altar in Enshrouded. These only require a small amount of two ingredients and have a decent amount of illumination as well. Thanks to their small size, candles can be placed on basically any plain surface including tables.

Here are the required crafting materials for the basic candle in Enshrouded:

ItemRequired MaterialsEffect
Candle1x String
1x Wax
+2 Comfort

Crafting a Candle is pretty simple, and can be done in the opening hour of the game.

  • Approach a workbench in Enshrouded, and press E (Craft and Repair)
  • Now, under the Illumination heading, you’ll see the Candle recipe along with a few other items.
  • You only need one string and one wax, and that’s it. Craft a Candle, and place it wherever you want.

Candle Illumination Comparison

Here is how a regular candle compares to the other illumination items that you can craft on the workbench.

With a few candles, you can light up any old shack in no time. This is especially useful thanks to the low crafting cost. The only thing you’ll have a bit of trouble getting is wax, which is found in Beehives. Make sure you bring a torch with you or use the bow to sheet it down.

Skull Candle Workbench Item

In addition to a regular candle, the workbench also gives access to the Skull Candle, which as you can imagine, uses a skull as a base to hold the wax.

ItemRequired MaterialsEffect
Skull Candle1x Bones
1x Candle
3x Resin
+2 Comfort

While skulls are great, this does require more materials and it’s not as bright either.

Though obviously it’s more about the aesthetics, and the Skull Candle does look more menacing.

Items that Use Candles as Crafting Material

While Candles are great to display on their own, multiple items in the game use Candles as a material for crafting. These can’t be found at your regular workbench, and require interacting with a specific craftsperson.

All of the items above have some form of illumination and comfort value, making them ideal choices for deeper customization, and decoration. Why use a simple candle, when you can be fancy instead?

Enshrouded continues to grow in its early access state, and the recent update even added pets to tame, and Twitch drops to claim!
