Quinn offers you one Powerful Engram in exchange for the genocide of Cabal

With Stargazer done, we’re now one step closer to getting the Exotic Glaive quest. But before we do that, we must get on Maelstrom’s frequency. Here’s how to complete the Quest Maelstrom in Destiny 2.

How to Complete the Quest Maelstrom in Destiny 2

Fortunately, Maelstrom is only a four-step quest, and it’s very combat focused. So, let’s dive right in.

Step 1: Bond with Strand sources

Bond with Strand sources, and participate in public events, patrols, and loot resources, all within the Vex Incursion Zone.

Area defended 0%

Stand sources bonded 0/2

So, the Vex Incursion Zone is a rotating “hot spot” within Neomuna. Every day, there is a new Vex Incursion Zone. To tell where it is for our quest, open up your map and look for the blue quest icon. If you hover over it, it should say Maelstrom. Whatever area this icon is beside is the Vex Incursion Zone.

For me, it was Liming Harbor.

You defend areas by completing patrols, public events, and looting resources within the designated zone. Opening chests is 2%, completing patrols is 4%. I highly recommend putting on the Treasure Hunter Mod on your Ghost, and focusing on Loot-based or Kill-based patrols while completing Override Zone events. These events are excellent because it creates large mobs, and if you’re doing a loot-based patrol, the kills of nearby Guardians will still drop loot.

Every time an Override Zone ends, leave the area and return. It’s likely that there will be another Override Zone. And because Bungie wants more people on the same map, it’s likely you won’t be the only one there.

You can find Strand sources by doing Override Zone events as well. I’ve seen them appear very rarely on the map just randomly, but I almost always see them as part of the last stage of the Override Zone event. Just wait until Stage Three when you’re fighting the final boss. The Strand node will appear close to where the chests will spawn, and it will a star icon to show its location.

Either way, this is a step that’s going to take a long time.

Step 2: Complete the Lost Sector within the Vex Incursion Zone

Once step one is done, head to the closest Lost Sector. If you’re not sure where to find it, check out the related links below.

Kill the boss and loot the cache that it’s guarding to unlock the next step.

Step 3: Memorial restored

Return to the Hall of Heroes to repair Maelstrom’s Memorial.

With the Lost Sector completed, zip back to the Hall of Heroes. Approach Maelstrom’s memorial. It’s the one on the far right. It will repair and you’ll hear a short message from Maelstrom.

Step 4: Return to Quinn

Return to Quinn to discuss the next steps.

Speak to Quinn at her desk. Turns out, Maelstrom spent a lot of time accessing a secret file belonging to another deceased Cloudstrider, called Bluejay. Guess whose memorial we’ll need to restore next? But to reward all your effort, Quinn gives you a Powerful Gear Engram.

And that’s the end of this quest! We’ll need to complete Bluejay’s quest before we finally get access to the last Exotic quest… but we’re almost there. If you need a break, why not check out how to get Forensic Nightmare?
