At its core, Sons of the Forest is a survival horror game where your main objective is, well, survival. With cannibals, hunger and other elements out to get you, you’ll have to find shelter, food, water and tools to keep yourself alive and explore the world. Once you settle in, you can start making large bases, including flights of stairs and various fancy features to make things more interesting. How to Build Stairs in Sons of the Forest
Before building stairs, make sure you have plenty of logs around! You can start chopping logs right at the start of the game once you get the Tactical Axe, but you can also get Kelvin to fetch some for you if you don’t want to do all the dirty work. Either way, get your hands on eight logs to start.
Building the Frame
Once you get some tree logs, you can start placing them to form the staircase frame. You can do this by taking the following steps:
- Grab a log and face the ground. You’ll initially find an option to place it horizontally. Change this by right-clicking on your mouse to see a white circle appear, prompting you to stab the log into the ground vertically.
- Get a second log and repeat this. However, when you place it near the first one, look out for a dotted line connecting the two, indicating that they’re the right distance away from each other!
- Take a third and fourth log and bring it toward the first two. Look at the top side of the vertical logs to find an arrow pointing down diagonally. Place the third down here and repeat this on the opposite side.
By this point, your stairs will look like the picture below. Now it’s time to make the steps!

Placing the Steps
With your remaining logs, head to the stair frame and look in the center. At first, you’ll see an arrow pointing right, but like before, you’ll have to change its orientation. Right-click with your mouse again until you see white lines in the shape of stairs.
Now, when you place down your logs, you’ll chop them in half and automatically attach them as steps. Repeat this until you fill the staircase!
