How to Beat the Black Wind King in Black Myth Wukong

Five Hundred Years

Black Myth: Wukong has tons of powerful bosses to take on, and you could be forgiven for thinking the entire game is a boss rush. Some of these fights are necessary to progress, and for many players, the Black Wind King might be the first major roadblock. Thankfully, he’s not a cheap boss and still has plenty of windows to attack. Here is how you can beat the Black Wind King in Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Myth Wukong Boss Guide: Black Wind King

We recommend starting the Black Wind King fight and using the Veiled Vipers ability by transforming into Guangmou.

This will summon vipers that shoot out venom, poison Black Wind King, and distract him for some easy hits.

If you get too close to him, he’ll drink from his gourd, and spit out fire towards you. Thankfully, a charged heavy attack during this will keep you safe and even inflict massive damage.

His most annoying attack is when he transforms into the wind itself in the form of a wisp. You can either jump into its incoming direction or perfectly dodge it.

He’ll do this three to four times and transform back into his self, but drop into the center of the arena. Keep far away from this, and you’ll see an indication at his landing spot. Don’t try to be close until his drop animation fully plays out.

This is a great time to heal up or charge up your heavy attack as well.

Black Wind King will also do a thrusting attack where he’ll throw his weapon after a small delay. You can perfectly dodge this or just move out of the way and get close to do damage while he’s picking it back up. He will also do a four-hit combo where his weapon is engulfed in black flame. This is easier to dodge than it seems, and you can simply move to the side if you don’t feel like dodging each blow.

When you get his health to around 50%, Black Wind King will get more aggressive and start disappearing and reappearing to do a lunge attack. As soon as you see him reappear, dodge in the other direction, and it’s fairly easy to dodge with enough time provided to react.

The best time to inflict damage is when he’s either done with a combo or when he’s picking up his weapon. You can do a charged heavy attack, which does tons of damage to him. Additionally, saving the Guangzhi for the 50% part of the boss fight can come in handy because you’re bound to get hit a few times. Guangzhi’s heavy attack will let you dash around the arena and deal consistent damage.

Liberally use the Immobalize spell when it’s filled back up, but don’t use it during his wisp form, and it doesn’t work during that state. Finally, don’t be afraid to create some distance between yourself and the Black Wing King. He doesn’t have any aggressive lunge attacks apart from the weapon throw.

Beating the Black Wind King will grant you the Cloud Step spell, which is a permanent addition to your spells and allows you to move around in a spirit form while leaving behind a decoy.

While the Black Wind King is part of the story and necessary to defeat, he’s still much easier than the optional fight with the Wandering Wight early on in the same chapter.
