With the holiday update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes new decorations, activities, and the ability to sit down on the ground. Unlike some aspects of the holiday update that are relatively easy to understand and access, the ability to sit down on the ground first requires a visit to Resident Services.
How to Sit on the Ground in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
If you’re looking to sit down on the ground either by yourself or beside your favorite villagers, the first thing you’ll need to do is make sure the latest update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has downloaded.
After that, load into the game and head over to the Resident Services building. Inside, you’ll need to interact with the Nook Stop Terminal and locate the “Hip Reactions Collection” option which is priced at 2,700 Nook Miles.
After purchasing the Hip Reactions Collection, you’ll be able to access what you’ve purchased immediately. As its name suggests, the Hip Reactions Collection contains several new reactions for your character including one that lets you sit on the ground.
Below, we’ve listed all of the reactions included in the Hip Reactions Collection.

- Sit Down
- Sniff Sniff
- Ta-Da
- Take a Picture
- Wave Goodbye
- Workout
- Yoga Pose
To access your new reactions, hit ZR which should bring up your reactions wheel. To move between reactions on the wheel, use your left thumbstick.
Note that if your reaction wheel is full you can swap out a reaction on the wheel for a new reaction by pressing X on the reaction you’d like to change, then pressing X again to register a new reaction.
You can also press Y to view your full list of reactions. In that list, you should see one called “Sit Down” which is one of the ones included in the Hip Reactions Collection you purchased.
Select “Sit Down” and add it to your reaction wheel then select it at any time by pressing ZR to bring up the wheel, then using the thumbstick to select the reaction you’d like to use.
When you select the “Sit Down” reaction you’ll sit down on the ground wherever you are. If you’re next to a villager sitting by a tree, you can select the “Sit Down” reaction and join them in a little relaxation.
Again, to sit down on the ground, you’ll need to purchase the Hip Reactions Collection at the Nook Stop Terminal in the Resident Services building. The Hip Reactions Collection is 2,700 Nook Miles and contains the “Sit Down” reaction along with a few others.
