A new Fortnite update has gone live and brings with it a feature that players have been asking for since season one: Respawning. Not unlike that of Apex Legend’s banners, Fortnite uses a Cards to bring to nearby Reboot Vans so that if a teammate is down, that doesn’t necessarily mean they have to be out.

“Never give up, never surrender,” exclaims Epic Games in their latest update patch notes. “Bring eliminated teammates back into battle with the Reboot Van. Drop in now and become the hero your team needs.”

As for how to actually use the feature, it takes a little legwork and – of course – there is danger involved. This is battle royale, after all. For those ready to be the saviour to their teammatets, here’s what you need to know before dropping in:

  • When squad members are eliminated they now drop their Reboot Card, which can be collected by other squad members.
  • Reboot Vans / Cards are disabled in Solos, Big Team Limited Time Modes, and any modes with respawns enabled.
  • Reboot Cards remain in the world for 90s after they’ve been dropped.
  • Pickup Interaction time: 0.5 seconds

Now for the heroics:

  • Bringing Reboot Cards to Reboot Vans will bring each squad member whose card has been collected back into battle.
  • Collected Reboot Cards can be turned in by any squad member regardless of which member picked up the Card.
  • Interaction time: 10 seconds.
  • A Reboot Van goes on cooldown and cannot be activated again for 120 seconds after it’s used.

Those squad members that have been “rebooted” will come back to the game with 100 health, 1 common pistol, 36 light ammo, and 100 wood. But still, it’s better than nothing, and it’s definitely better than taking a full loss.

The latest update is now live. For more on what’s new in the world of Epic Games’ battle royale title, you can check out the full patch notes right here. As for the game itself, Fortnite is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
