How to Catch Ditto in Pokemon Go
The key to finding Ditto in Pokemon GO is to actually catch all those low Pokemon you usually pass right over. Ditto will actually appear as a different Pokemon, but once you catch it, “oh?” will appear instead of the normal “Gotcha!” After the “oh,” a scene will play of the Pokemon you caught turning into Ditto! Unfortunately, this means Ditto could be anywhere, though you are more likely to find Ditto in Pokemon GO by catching specific Pokemon.

It is time to hit up your favorite Poke Stop location and farm as many balls as possible, you are going to need a lot to catch Ditto. While farming for balls, make sure you have a Lure Module out. Now that you have a Ditto, is it any good? The short answer is no, not at all. Unlike the main series of Pokemon games, Pokemon GO does not have breeding yet. When you attempt to take down a Gym in Pokemon GO with Ditto, it will transform into the first Pokemon it faces. It will also take on the same level as the Pokemon you are facing, with different final stats depending on the IV value of both Pokemon. This means that your little 300 CP Ditto could be a really powerful Charizard! For players without full rosters of Gym ready Pokemon, Ditto could actually serve a purpose as a stopgap.
Defending a Gym is not a great idea though. When you defend a Gym with Ditto in Pokemon GO, it will transform to the first attacker it faces. The transformation takes a little bit of time, and Ditto is able to be damaged throughout the transformation.
