Helldivers 2: How To Fix Quickplay Issues on PS5

Can't join up with other players? Find out why.

If you’re wondering where the rest of the Helldivers in your squad are, you’re not alone. While I’ve been exploring the variety of planets on my own, nobody has joined up with me — why is that?

What is Quickplay in Helldivers 2 and Why Isn’t It Working?

If you’re unfamiliar, Quickplay in Helldivers 2 is a feature that allows players to immediately jump into a random stranger’s game if they don’t have a full party. After all, Helldivers 2 can be incredibly difficult for solo players, and a full party only heightens the fun when tackling large bugs in the name of democracy. So Quickplay gives players the option to tackle their patriotic missions in a less lonely fashion, and you should immediately see a button prompt for it when accessing the Galactic War Table. When pressing the Quickplay button, you should immediately jump into a random player’s party.

But unfortunately, the Quickplay feature doesn’t seem to work as intended half the time. Helldivers 2 has proven to be immensely more popular than its developers foresaw, and the sheer number of new players is continuously pushing the game’s server capacity. This is causing the game to break in many ways. Not only does Quickplay not work half the time but some players can’t even boot up the game because there are just too many darn players already filling up the servers.

Helldivers 2: Is Quickplay Not Working on PlayStation 5?

If you’re not playing in a party, you may have noticed that encountering other Helldivers on the planets you’re exploring can be a hit-or-miss bag. There’s also a chance that you’ve tried to join up with a squad, either to run into a Failed to Join Lobby bug or even a possible crash that requires you to start the game up once again. This is, unfortunately, a known issue and something that the team at Arrowhead Game Studios is working diligently to fix.

According to the official Helldivers 2 Discord Channel, in the #known-issues channel;

When you attempt to join a mission at the War Table on the ship, many players will encounter a “Failed to join game lobby” message. We are extending a patch to PlayStation today. Meanwhile, using friend codes to play does work for most users. Also, there is a higher likelihood of Quickplay success if you first go to planets with fewer players (such as one in an Automaton sector).

So, a patch has since been deployed, and things do seem to function a bit better now. But Helldivers 2’s Quickplay feature still has its issues thanks to an influx of players continuously overloading the game’s servers. If you’re still struggling with Quickplay, there are a few different workarounds available that may allow you to join in with some other random players.

Pay attention to the number of players on a particular planet, which is shown by the Yellow number on the right. The fewer players there are, the better chance you’ll have to jump into a Quickplay game and have a good squad of randoms to play with. Otherwise, just make sure that you’ve got a group of friends on any platform together and get ready to explore the world before you.
