Hearthstone: Curse of Naxxramas – Hunter Class Challenge

Use a deck full of Webspinner minions to take down Loatheb!
This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

The Plague Quarter in Hearthstone’s solo adventure expansion, Curse of Naxxramas, pits you against the bosses Noth, Heigan and Loatheb. Once you have cleared all three boss battles, you can partake in the Mage and Hunter class challenges. The class challenges use pre-constructed decks that the player has no control over. They must play with the deck they are given against one of the bosses in the Plague Quarter. In the case of the Hunter, you must battle against Loatheb.

What’s interesting about this battle is that your deck is composed entirely of Webspinner cards. The Webspinner is a one-mana 1/1 minion, which has a Deathrattle that summons a random beast card into your hand. What this means is that your deck is essentially made up of completely random beast cards.

You want to play as many Webspinners as you can until you can run them into Loatheb’s minions. Once you can, do not play any additional cards until you see which random beast cards you’re going to get from destroying the Webspinners currently in play. Once you see the new beast cards you can determine what to play that turn. It’s almost always better to destroy your Webspinner card by attacking one of Loatheb’s minions rather than attacking Loatheb directly. The Webspinners aren’t going to win you this match. It’s the beast cards that you obtain by their Deathrattle that are important.

Keep in mind Loatheb’s various Spore cards. Once you fill your side of the board, Loatheb will start using Deathbloom and Sporeburst, which summon Spore cards that have a Deathrattle which buffs your minions with +8 Attack. This is all you need to finish off Loatheb in two or three turns. Unfortunately, how effective the buff can be is very much dependant on which random beast cards you get from the Webspinners.

While the buff is extremely helpful, you need to be able to survive Loatheb’s attacks in order to use the buff effectively. In most cases you’ll have at least two or three cards that have more than one or two health and will survive long enough to utilize the Spore buff. Make sure you don’t play too many cards with one or two health or else they’ll be taken down if Loatheb uses Sporeburst. As long as you continue to use Webspinners to take down Loatheb’s minions, you shouldn’t have too much trouble in this match. Once you defeat Loatheb you will obtain the Webspinner card.
