Genshin Impact “Chronicled Wish” Banner Explained

A new opportunity or a new scam?

Genshin Impact has introduced the long-rumored third limited banner, named Chronicled Wish, during its 4.5 version Livestream. This new destiny for your hard-earned Primogems can give you that long-awaited character, but has some specific rules that must be understood before throwing your luck on it.

What is the Chronicled Wish Banner in Genshin Impact?

Chronicled Wish is the official name for the new “rerun banner” introduced in the game. Alongside the usual reruns and new characters, the game will now have a third banner option that works a bit differently from the others. The intent is to bring back older banner characters faster now that the game has increased its roster largely.

It features 5-star characters and 5-star weapons that have been featured in banners at least three times and has a slightly altered Fate Point system similar to what we already have in the Weapons’ Banner.

We can summarize its workings in a few simple points.

  • Older characters and weapons will be present in the banner from time to time.
  • Uses Intertwined Fates but has a separate pity count from other banners.
  • Uses the Fate Point system to choose a “target” reward. You have a 50% chance of getting the target when obtaining a 5-star. If your 5-star isn’t the target, you get a Fate Point. Fate Points guarantee your next 5-star to be the target.
  • You only get either 5-star weapons or 5-star characters depending on which one you pick. If you choose Eula as a target, you can’t get any weapon from the banner.
  • Fate Points are not carried over to the next Chronicled Wish cycle.

The first banner will be Mondstadt-themed, featuring the three Standard 5-stars Diluc, Jean, and Mona alongside the limited Klee, Albedo, and Eula. The absence of Venti suggests that Archons will be absent from Chronicled Wish. It also implies that the next Chronicled Wish might feature Liyue characters.

Characters featured in Chronicled Wish can still get their own personal banners in the future, but you can get them earlier through this new wishing mechanic. Notably, this is the first time players can get a specific Standard 5-star from a banner (with Keqing being an exception back in 1.3).

It’s also technically easier to get a signature weapon through here. The two “lost” Signature Weapons for Tighnari and Dehya are also present in the banner, so there’s finally another way to get them too!

Is It Worth Rolling in the Chronicled Wish Banner?

Chronicled Wish looks like a great idea at first glance, but it has a glaring issue: Fate Points are not carried over. If you wanted Albedo but got Klee instead, but can’t afford to reach 5-star pity again before the banner expires, your Fate Point will be lost when it ends. Your efforts for getting Albedo will be useless in the end, and you won’t have a “guaranteed 50/50” like in the limited banner.

While pity count will still carry over between iterations, you’re basically forced to have enough Primogems for up to 180 wishes to get a specific target. In the worst case, you could end up never getting any target at all.

Unless you have big savings, rolling in Chronicled Wish is not advised for older players. New or returning players that only have a few 5-stars might do well with any of the featured characters, but if you really want that specific character, be ready to grind for those extra Gems.

But despite its flaws, Chronicled Wish might be better for getting 5-star Weapons. Beacon of the Reed Sands and Hunter’s Path are particularly very strong weapons for various characters and couldn’t be obtained anywhere else, so this is a great chance for obtaining them. Other powerful limited weapons might also make their way to the banner in the future such as the Primordial Jade Cutter.

In the worst-case scenario, you only need 180 wishes to guarantee a weapon here compared to 240 in the way-more-predatory Weapons’ Banner. So you might wanna throw your chances here if you’re looking to get the best equipment for your characters. But if you’re looking for specific ones, waiting for a regular banner might be a safer choice.
