Fortnite Week 10 Challenges | How To Upgrade Weapons

Improvements here, improvements there, improvements everywhere.

One of the Fortnite Chapter 2 Week 10 Challenges that can potentially throw off players who’ve been away from the game for a while is one that asks you to upgrade weapons.

Previously, you could go to a Weapon Upgrade Bench and take care of your improvements there. Now, you’ll need to do a slightly different step if you want to upgrade a weapon in Fortnite.

Fortnite Week 10 Challenges | How To Upgrade Weapons

If you’re looking to upgrade a weapon in Fortnite, you’ll need to seek out one of the game’s NPCs that offer weapon upgrades rather than visit a Weapon Upgrade Bench.

You’ll also need to fork over some Gold Bars in order for these NPCs to do the weapon upgrades that you’re requesting, but overall it’s worth it.

Not just for completing things like the Week 10 Challenge, but also because the better the weapon, the more efficient it is. It’s just science.

In the map image above, we’ve marked some locations where NPCs that offer weapon upgrades are known to spawn in Fortnite. The easiest one for us to find in order to complete this challenge is located in Catty Corner, although we also had luck visiting the NPC in Misty Meadows in a later match.

Note that you can spot NPCs as they’ll walk around differently than an enemy player would, and they have a little chat bubble above their head which lets you know you can approach and talk to them.

The cheapest weapon upgrade available is from Common rarity to Uncommon at just 50 Gold Bars, so if you are short on Gold Bars but want to get the weapon upgrade task done, picking up Common weapons is the way to go. Getting an elimination with a Common weapon is also part of Fortnite’s Chapter 2 Week 10 Challenges.

You’ll have to upgrade a weapon three times to mark this particular task complete. You could pick up and upgrade three different Common weapons, or upgrade the same weapon three times, it’s entirely up to you.

The most important thing is knowing where to find the right NPC, and having enough Gold Bars to afford the upgrade. If you’re short on Gold Bars, you can pick up a few by destroying beds, couches, and chairs as part of Fortnite’s Legendary Quests for Week 10 as well.

You’ll know you’ve completed the weapon upgrade task when you get a notification that you’ve earned 20,000 XP. After that, you’re free to dig into other Week 10 Challenges, which we recommend doing before the Week 11 Challenges drop in.
