Skill-based matchmaking will see Fortnite players matched up with players of similar skill when they join a match. This means novice players will be facing off against other novices when more advanced players will be going up against equally talented players in their games. As a player gets better, the tougher their competition will become. This feature is being introduced to help stop the issue newer players face of being matched up with players who are higher skilled who defeat the new players with ease. The feature is intended to allow players to hone their skills in a much more beneficial way through the battle royale game’s regular playlists.

This skill-based matchmaking in Fortnite will then see a significant change when Season 11 launches. The reasoning for this change in Season 11 is that Epic Games will be adding bots to the lower levels of the system. Low skilled players will face off against bots (AI controlled characters). Players will face off against fewer bots in their matches the more experienced they become.

Epic Games is hoping the introduction of this feature will provide new players a much better route for improving in an environment where the average talent of a player is much higher than it has been in the past.
