Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 | What Is The Sideways, How To Enter The Sideways

The first question Fortnite players will likely have regarding the Sideways is along the lines of, “What is it?”

The Sideways is a new addition to the game as part of Season 8. Similar to the previous season where alien abductor ships would spawn randomly above named locations, the Sideways will spawn randomly over named locations.

On your map, you can see exactly where the Sideways is by looking for a named location with a purple/orange circle over it, as seen in the image above. After finding the Sideways on your map, navigate to that location.

Once there, you’ll see a large orange and purple sphere covering the location. You should be able to walk into the Sideways, or drop right in from the Battle Bus without issue. As for what you’ll find inside, you’ll find AI enemies called Cube Monsters.

Elaborating on Cube Monsters and the Sideways in a blog post, Epic Games explains:

“You’ll encounter a new location ensnared by the Sideways each match, or come across Sideways anomalies, gateways that will pull you in if you get too close. Once pulled in, defeat waves of Cube Monsters for Sideways Weapons and special crafting ingredients. The rules are different in this mysterious world: gravity is low and building is non-existent.”

As you can see, the Sideways is an anomaly that causes low gravity and building restrictions at the location where it spawns. Inside the Sideways, you’ll have to fight waves of Cube Monsters in exchange for crafting materials like Cube Monster Parts which can be used to craft Sideways Weapons.

Note that enemy players can also take shots at you in the Sideways, so be sure to keep an eye out for them while you’re taking down Cube Monsters. Additionally, there is another way to enter the Sideways via the game’s Sideways Zone.

In a post from Nintendo, these Sideways Zones are further explained

“Get ready to enter The Sideways. The Sideways is a strange, dark, and dangerous alternate world that is full of Cube Monsters. The Cubes have created portals called “Sideways Anomalies” that give access to the Sideways. Why would you want to enter this world? Because of the rewards, of course!

Taking out waves of Cube Monsters will reward you with Sideways weapons. Also, defeated Cube Monsters drop Cube Monster Parts, a crafting ingredient that will make your Sideways weapons even more powerful.

Not only can we go to the Sideways… The Sideways can also come to us. Each match, a certain POI will be engulfed by the Sideways, becoming a “Sideways Zone.”  You can find Cube Monsters and Sideways weapons in these places too.”

And in conclusion, we hope this helps give you a better understanding of the Sideways, where to find it, how to enter, and what you’ll find inside in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8.
