If you see one of Fortnite’s NPCs offering the option to activate Prop Disguise, your first question might be along the lines of what does it do exactly, and whether it’s worth spending your Bars on.

To give you a better idea as to what you can expect, we’ve put together a quick guide explaining what activating Prop Disguise does in Fortnite.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 | What Does Activate Prop Disguise Do?

In Fortnite Season 6, some of the NPCs offer options from hiring them as bodyguards to purchasing weapons. One of the more interesting offers that some NPCs will let you purchase in Season 6 is something called “Activate Prop Disguise” and is priced at 75 Bars.

If you give an NPC the requisite Bars to activate Prop Disguise, something interesting will happen. What, you ask? You’ll turn into a random item in Fortnite like a mailbox or a barrel. Not only will you become an inconspicuous item, you can actually move around the map as that item.

You can’t shoot anyone while you’re in your Prop Disguise form, but you can pick up items like ammo off the ground. The main NPC we found that’ll let you activate Prop Disguise is Crustina who’s located at The Pizza Pit across the road from the Orchard Farmers Market (marked in the map image above).

Crustina will be behind the counter, note that you can interact with the cash register there to grab a few extra Bars. There will occasionally be a chest next to Crustina that you can open and gear up on supplies with.

When you speak with Crustina, select the option “Activate Prop Disguise” and spend 75 Bars to turn into a random item.

Below, we’ve listed some of the items we’ve been able to turn into when using Prop Disguise in Fortnite.

  • Mailbox

  • Trash Can

  • Slurp Barrel

  • Wood Barrel

Some of these items are better than others. For example, real Slurp Barrels can be whacked with a pickaxe for a little extra Shield. You don’t want enemy players to start hitting you with their pickaxe as you’re hiding.

We’ve found the Wood Barrel and the Trash Can to be the most effective when it comes to hiding, with the Mailbox being fun but a little conspicuous in areas like Colossal Crops. Note that if you try to aim a weapon (RMB on PC) you’ll exit your Prop Disguise form.

Also note that there’s a time limit to your Prop Disguise, don’t let this catch you by surprise as you’re hiding because all of a sudden you’ll be visible to enemies that you may not be in the best spot to deal with.

As more people use it and figure out what it does, we imagine Prop Disguise will be somewhat less effective as people will realize that out-of-place Trash Can is actually an enemy player and not just an odd thing the game plopped in the middle of nowhere.

Even still, it’s worth trying it out at least once because it’s good for a little laugh, especially when you do get the Trash Can disguise.
