FFXIV: How to Get the Bold and the Braid Hairstyle

A new sidecut option enters the room.

Smaller patches in Final Fantasy XIV often bring some minor, but interesting cosmetics such as hairstyles, and 6.51 did just that by introducing the Bold and the Braid hairstyle. This is an easily unlockable one, and here’s what you need to do to get it.

Where to Get the Bold and the Braid Hairstyle

The Bold and the Braid is obtained by exchanging 6 Aloalo Potshards with Trisassant in Old Sharlayan (X:11.9 Y:13.3). Aloalo Potshards are obtained by running the Aloalo Island Variant Dungeon and opening the Personal Spoils chests you find along the way. They may also contain other unique rewards, so keep your eyes open for each of them.

Each complete dungeon run gets you 3 Potshards if you don’t miss anything, so running it twice is enough to get the new haircut. There are many other interesting stuff you can get with this currency, so you might want to keep running the dungeon a few more times even after getting your new hairstyle.

And don’t you worry as The Bold and the Braid is also compatible with both Viera and Hrothgars, and it’s wonderful on both of them. The days of feeling bad for unlocking a new cosmetic you can’t even use are fortunately long gone. At least for most hairstyles, that is.

As its name suggests, this hairstyle is a one-sided braid as if it were an actual sidecut, being a great fit for both male and female characters. It technically counts as longer hair since that’s almost the maximum length the game usually lets us have. One day, we’ll get proper longer hair for all races, but that day might still be slightly further than imagined.

You’ll have plenty of extra Potshards if you’re aiming to get the Spectral Statice mount, so adding this one hair to your collection might be a great fashion choice. You might run out of things to buy after 12 runs, after all.
