Final Fantasy XIV’s new Island Sanctuary feature has a lot to offer – from gathering resources ’til the cows come home to capturing the cows and escorting them home. Well, maybe not the cows, but many other forms of wildlife that roam every player’s private getaways that were introduced in the latest 6.2 content patch. Animals on your Island Sanctuary come in different shapes and sizes and, though some are more rarely seen than others, they can be captured and domesticated back on your farm for special “Leavings” dropped once per day. One of those rare animals is the Yellow Coblyn, an amber-tinted variant of the normal Coblyns that roam The Wilds. If you’re looking to take one home, read on to learn how to catch a Yellow Coblyn in FFXIV’s Island Sanctuary.

Capturing Animals in FFXIV Island Sanctuary
To capture an animal in Island Sanctuary, you’ll first need to craft the right restraining device to use on them depending on their size. The Yellow Coblyn is considered a Small animal, so the Makeshift Net will suffice for this one. Luckily, you’re taught to craft Makeshift Nets during the Island Sanctuary tutorial but, in case you forgot, you’ll need to gather up the following materials:
- 1 Island Branch
- 2 Island Vine
Once crafted, you can equip the Makeshift Net as your tool after switching to Capture mode.
Capturing the Yellow Coblyn – Weather and Location
Unlike the more common time-based spawns, the Yellow Coblyn’s spawn is only based on the current weather pattern on your island. To spot one in the wild, you’ll need to wait for the “Fog” weather pattern to appear, and, once it does, you can head up the narrow mountain paths around the (X: 27, Y: 19) coordinates to find their nesting grounds. To check the current weather, hover over the small icon attached to your in-game minimap.
Sneak behind the Yellow Coblyn and use the Makeshift Net on them. Careful, a catch is never guaranteed, and it may take several attempts before you can take one home. If you’re successful, you’ll find the Yellow Coblyn back at the pasture in your Island Sanctuary, where you can begin feeding and petting them to increase their mood and nourishment levels in exchange for Sanctuary Carapace leavings to collect once a day.
