Eternal Strands, the upcoming action-adventure title from ex-Bioware and Ubisoft developers finally has a release date. The Unreal Engine 5 release features towering creatures, tons of magical effects on display, and a high level of player interactivity thanks to a physics-heavy gameplay style. The developers have confirmed the availability of a free demo for the PC version before its release, and here are the official system requirements for Eternal Strands.
Eternal Strands System Requirements
Minimum | Recommended | |
---|---|---|
Target Resolution | 1080p (upscaled from 50% internal) | 1440p (upscaled from 50% internal) |
Preset | Lowest | Epic |
Target Framerate | 30 FPS | 60 FPS |
OS | Windows 10/11 – 64-Bit | Windows 10/11 – 64-Bit |
CPU | Intel Core i5-9400 AMD Ryzen 5 3350 | Intel Core i5-11600 AMD Ryzen 5 5600X |
RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
GPU | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT 6GB Intel Arc A580 | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 8GB AMD Radeon RX 6800 16GB Intel Arc A770 |
Storage | 24 GB SSD | 24 GB SSD |
The developers have listed the target resolution and frame rate, but there is a major caveat here. Both 1080p and 1440p are upscaled from an internal resolution of 50%. This means that if you have a GTX 1660 Super paired with a Ryzen 5 3350, you can play the game at the lowest settings at 1080p with a 30 FPS target, however, the internal resolution will be 540p, which is 50% of 1080p and usually the “DLSS Performance” value.
We’re unsure why they wouldn’t just list the hardware required for native 1080p as an upscaled image will never look decent at a 1080p display with such a low internal resolution. Even the 1440p target is upscaled from a 50% resolution, meaning the internal resolution is just 720p. For that, you’ll need an RTX 3070 paired with a Ryzen 5 5600X when played at the epic preset.
I’m not a fan of system requirements that include upscaled values for resolution as the average PC player might not know immediately what the internal resolution is and how it impacts the final image. Apart from that, you only need 24 GB of free space, but an SSD is required, which is the norm for modern releases.
Eternal Strands Demo
We won’t have to wait too long to see how Eternal Strands runs on PC as the demo launches on January 21, 2024.
This should give most PC players a good idea of how the title will run on their systems before they decide to purchase the full release.
Eternal Strands Release Date
Eternal Strands is coming to PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PS5 on January 28, 2024. It will be priced at $40 across all platforms.
Overall, the system requirements for Eternal Strands aren’t exactly that useful, and the demo release will give a better idea of what to expect regarding performance.
