Early Food and Water Sources in StarRupture

While both food and hydration are essential for survival, you will quickly learn that even a small source of nourishment can last quite a while. That is why it is a good idea to carry a few food items and water sources with you at all times, just in case your character gets hungry.

Early on, you will not have access to calorie bars, but you can manage hunger and hydration by scavenging the following two items found in abundance:

ItemIn-Game ScreenshotHydration / Calorie EffectWhere to find
PolifruitPolifruitGain 11 Calories. All over Arcadia-7, wherever there is grass.
HydrobulbHydrobulbGain 15 Hydration. Can be plucked from plants near water. Very easy to find.

Consuming a few of these will restore your stats in just a few seconds. Additionally, neither of these items gives you toxicity, so they’re pretty useful with no side effects, making them the perfect snack to munch on as you’re exploring Arcadia-7.

Here are a few more things to keep in mind when it comes to hunger, thirst, and your stats:

  • Your character in StarRupture does not eat slowly, and the calorie and hydration meters refill instantly rather than over time.
  • Each time your character is hungry or thirsty, they will say it out loud. It’s a nice indicator that you should eat or drink something.
  • Additionally, when you’re low on calories or hydration, the relevant icon will light up left of your character’s portrait.
  • If either of your calorie or hydration meters is depleted, you will start losing health.
  • To consume these items, “Use” them from inventory.

Apart from these, you can also loot the personal storage containers on the ship you came in for some Survival Food Packs. Each pack heals 15 HP, gives you 35 calories, and 35 hydration.

As you progress through the game and discover more flora of Arcadia-7, you will be able to craft food items that give more than just calories and help in traversal, combat, and survival, but early on, Polifruit and Hydrobulb should be your bread and butter.
