Everyone’s been enjoying Palworld to the fullest since its initial release, but one question remains: Why are we here fighting for our lives? Is there any concrete lore or story explanation to what is actually happening on those islands filled with strange-looking, yet entrancing creatures?
Is There a Story for Palworld?
While there’s no Story Mode for Palworld, we can see that there are some bits of lore scattered here and there. During the first cutscene alone, we see the protagonist holding their Paldeck which shows a message saying that “the towers are the key” and that “the tree holds the truth”. From this moment, they get up and set out on their journey.
And as soon as we take our first steps, we can indeed see an Yggdrasil-like tree in the distance. And whenever they reference that damned sacred tree for Norse mythology in fiction, you should always be wary of it. From that alone, we can infer that our main objective is not merely surviving, but exploring said towers and eventually venturing through that mysterious tree.
Those towers are all guarded by officers like Zoe, who we find in the Rayne Syndicate’s Tower. So, we need to become stronger to overcome these challenges, while venturing through many other adventures. We meet humans who are trying to poach Pals for some profit, as well as those who are trying to protect them. All of them have their own goals on the island, be it legal or not.
So yeah, there IS some story here if you pay close attention, but the main focus is still the survival/building/capturing portions of the game. Your endgame goal will be to finally venture the tree but be ready for tons of grinding until you get to that point.
And don’t worry if you just feel like ignoring those story beats. Most people just came for the Pokemon with guns (which are totally legal) anyway. But you may find a bit more if you look close enough. No pressure, though.
