Before Overwatch 2 launched, the Blizzard team announced that it would be combating cheaters by forcing players to add a mobile number to their Overwatch account. This would provide a way for Blizzard to permanently ban cheating players since the account and phone number would be on the ban list.

Here’s the official text from the Overwatch 2 website.

“Starting October 4, 2022, all players across all platforms, including consoles, are required to have a phone number attached to their battle.net account to launch Overwatch 2. So it’s not your traditional anti-cheat software you see in games like Call of Duty or Valorant, but this is a form of anti-cheat.
