If you’re making your first Cyberpunk 2077 character, then you have a lot you’ll need to decide. You need to pick out a difficulty for yourself, assign your starting Attribute Points, and pick out which of the many different hairstyles you want. One choice seems like it might matter a lot to your playthrough. Here’s whether your lifepath matters in Cyberpunk 2077.
Will the Lifepath You Choose Change Anything in Cyberpunk 2077?
When creating your character, you’re presented with three different lifepath options to choose from. These are as follows:
- Nomad: You grew up in the Badlands looting whatever you could and stealing whatever you couldn’t. You value honesty, integrity, and freedom, something that you’ll find is surprisingly rare in Night City.
- Streetkid: You were born and lived on the streets from a young age, raised by some of the seediest lowlifers Night City has to offer. You value the idea of the weakest in Night City serving the strong and understand the idea of authority.
- Corpo: You were born in the corporate world, a game of politics, cash flow, and secrets. You’ve learned to weaponize these secrets, turning deals to your favor and breaking rules where you have to. Fair play doesn’t exist; there are only those who win and those who are dead.
Depending on the lifepath you choose, you’re presented with a completely different prologue surrounding that lifepath. For example, I chose Corpo on my first playthrough and ended up working in the counterintel department of Arasaka, before meeting with Jackie and getting the ball rolling.
Alongside a different prologue, you’ll also find different bits of dialogue related to your background during conversations. Sometimes, these are as simple as learning more about the world. Other times, they can determine the outcome of a conversation. Rest assured that you won’t feel locked out based on which path you choose.
Is There a Lifepath That’s Better Than the Other Two?
While, for the most part, this isn’t the case, plenty of dialogue choices you can make during the Phantom Liberty expansion favor having a Corpo background. If you’re just skipping to the DLC, then Corpo would be your best bet.
