Destiny: The Taken King – How to Get The First Curse

All of the steps required to put this Exotic Hand Cannon in your Guardian’s inventory.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

This feature provides all of the steps to receive The First Curse Exotic Hand Cannon in Destiny: The Taken King. This weapon (290 Attack Power) excels at low impact and up close shots, but suffers from weak stability and a magazine size of eight rounds. However, the two exotic perks make up for its shortcomings. The first, Dead Eye, adds a bonus to range, stability and movement speed when you aim down the sights. The second, The First Curse, grants increased range and stability until your next reload when you make precision kills.

There are eight steps required to get The First Curse, and you’ll need to wait during certain parts of the quest, but if you play Destiny on a regular basis, you probably have plenty of things to do in the meantime. Let’s begin!

First, level up your Gunsmith Reputation to Rank 5. Head to the Tower and visit the Gunsmith, Banshee-44.  If you don’t know how to achieve Rank 5, this guide to Armsday explains everything

When you achieve Rank 5, Banshee-44 gives you a new quest called Imprecation.

Imprecation Quest

Step 1: Get kills with a hand cannon with a Primary or Hand Cannon telemetry active.

Activate one of these items and you’ll gain experience quicker than usual for approximately 30 minutes. Buy one from Xur for one Strange Coin. You can also get one from dismantling Legendary Hand Cannons.

Step 2: Return to the Tower and speak to Banshee-44

Step 3: Wait until the following Armsday

This is where the quest gets put on hold for different lengths of time depending on the day. Since Armsday is every Wednesday, you may need to wait the full seven days before continuing.

Step 4: Speak to Banshee-44 again

This time, the Gunsmith hands over a field test weapon called Imprecation. Equip it.

Step 5: Infuse the weapon

If this baffles you, read our guide for weapon infusion in Destiny. After doing this, you will need to go on seven killing sprees and then a precision killing spree in the Crucible with Imprecation equipped.

Step 6: Speak to Banshee-44 yet again

Step 7: Wait for the next Armsday

Yes, it’s time to go off and pass the time. Perhaps you still need to beat the King’s Fall Raid or Sunless Cell Strike. There’s also the spooky Festival of the Lost event, which goes through November 9.

Step 8: Speak to Banshee-44

Chat with the Gunsmith a final time and he’ll give you The First Curse. Congratulations!
