Destiny: Rise of Iron – How to Farm Splicer Keys

Find out how to stock up on Splicer Keys, which allow you to unlock SIVA blocked doorways in Destiny: Rise of Iron.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is officially released and yesterday we spent quite a bit of time diving deep into the new missions, quests, and social area that the expansion has to offer. During our time there we came across a lot of useful items, like Splicer Keys, which are needed to progress through certain quests, or to unlock certain doorways, like the SIVA blockade in the Archon Forge. In this article we’ll be showing you how to farm Splicer Keys, which you can pick up off of special Rise of Iron enemies like the Hive Brood Mother.

What are Splicer Keys

First off we want to get the easy stuff out of the way. Splicer Keys are a new consumable that was introduced in Destiny: Rise of Iron. This special item can be picked up by Guardians and is used at consoles and special computer terminals to unlock laser grids, remove SIVA blockades, and allow Guardians entry to hidden and secret areas. You’ll also need a ton of these if you want to make use of the Archon Forge, as it requires them to regain entry if you perish and aren’t revived in the arena. You can only carry ten of these at a time on your person. Unlike Rare, Legendary, and Exotic Engrams, Splicer Keys do not go to the Post Master if you cannot pick them up.

How to Get Splicer Keys

Now that you know what Splicer Keys are, it is time to dive into how you get them. As we stated above, you can only carry ten of these consumables at a time. However, you can move a completed stack into your Vault and collect more while on Patrol. Since these items are used to get back into the Archon Forge, and even in some quests like the Gjallarhorn Exotic Questline, you’ll want to get quite a few of these in reserves. The easiest way to get Splicer Keys is to make your way through the Rise of Iron campaign until you unlock the Plaguelands Patrol.

Once you have unlocked Plaguelands Patrol, head into the Patrol area, and make your way to the right of your spawn in Lord’s Watch. If other players haven’t killed her already, there should be a Hive Wizard in this area called a Brood Mother. This special enemy actually spawns in many of the various areas around the Plaguelands, so don’t be afraid to move around a little bit and find more. To get Splicer Keys all you need to do is kill this enemy. The drop rate at this point in time in unclear, however, we have acquired a Splicer Key each and every single time that we have taken this Wizard down. If you want to farm this enemy quickly, then all you need to do is spawn in on Patrol, kill the Brood Mother, and then head back to orbit. Rinse and repeat.

Now that you know how to farm Splicer Keys, head on over to our full Destiny: Rise of Iron walkthrough to find out more about the new features and items in this expansion.

If you follow the steps outlined above, you can acquire anywhere from thirty to forty Splicer Keys in just one hour of farming. This is a great method to help you fill your coffers and make sure you’re never lacking when it comes to this new consumable.
