Destiny – Best Ways to Prepare for Rise of Iron

Not sure what to gather before Rise of Iron? Let us help.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Destiny’s newest expansion pack, Rise of Iron, is upon us and we’re going to cover how best to prepare for it. That means it is time to start preparing for the inevitable day we all log in and lose ourselves completely, waking up several days later to realize we haven’t eaten in weeks. To help you prepare for this trying time in your life, we’ve taken the liberty of putting together a nice little check list to help you make sure you’re good and prepared to take on the Devil Splicers and hold the wall.

Collect Motes of Light

Motes of Light are really important to upgrades weapons and gear, as well as for leveling your items and gear up. You’ll want to start collecting these now, and hold off on using them until after Rise of Iron releases. You can collect these a lot of different ways, and we will touch on that more in-depth at a later time.

Farm Strange Coins

Farming Strange Coins is going to be a really important part of your Rise of Iron preparation. This will make sure you are ready to purchase anything that Xur might be selling in the weeks after release, as those items will most likely include new Rise of Iron Exotic Weapons and Exotic Armor. If nothing else, you’ll want to be able to stay stocked up on Three of Coins to be able to farm Exotic Engrams from the new boss enemies that are revealed throughout Rise of Iron’s new campaign missions. We wrote up a quick guide to help you get more Strange Coins, so be sure to check that out!

Save up Legendary Marks

Legendary Marks… we’ve all been there, haven’t we? You go to buy some new Legendary Gear from your favorite Vanguard in The Tower and BAM! You’re empty! Poor! Completely drained of all your Legendary Marks. Don’t let that happen to you! We’ve already covered how you can farm Legendary Marks in our other guide, so make sure to check that out and get to saving. You don’t have long left, Guardian.

Gather Weapon Parts

If you want to be able to upgrade your new weapons, you’re going to need more than just Motes of Light, Strange Coins, and Exotic Shards. In fact, some could even argue that Weapon Parts are the most important part of upgrading new gear, as they are required for every upgrade you do. Thankfully they aren’t too hard to stock up on, and you can gather them simply be dismantling old weapons of any kind (though we’d suggest holding on to any Year 2 Legendaries or Exotics that are still viable pieces of your arsenal).

Stock Up on Materials and Exotic Shards

This last one should go without saying, but we’re going to say it anyways. Make sure you collect materials like Spinmetal, Relic Iron, and Helium Filaments. These items are key pieces of the upgrade process for weapons and gear, so you’ll want to make sure you have plenty to go around. These can easily be farmed with a little extra time on the weekends, and we’ll actually be covering that a bit more in-depth later on in another guide.

These are just some of the things you’ll want to make sure you have situated before Rise of Iron hits. Of course, there are plenty of others, and we’ll have more information about those things releasing soon. Until then, head back out into the Darkness, Guardian, and may the Traveler’s light protect you.
