Destiny 2 Encrypted Cache Key Guide

What is the Destiny 2 Encrypted Cache Key and what do you do with it? Our guide will sort you out.

If you’ve been trying to knock out the Destiny 2 Community Challenge that Bungie has set in the leadup to Shadowkeep’s release, then you’re probably already sick to death of Escalation Protocol: the event where you slaughter the Hives in droves, rinse, and repeat. Killing some Wave 7 bosses is one of the requirements of this challenge, so if you’ve been diligent about that then you’ll probably have noticed a little something dropping from those bosses that needs to be unlocked. Our Destiny 2 Encrypted Cache Key guide has the information you need.

Destiny 2 Encrypted Cache Key Guide

The most important thing to remember about actually getting an Encrypted Cache Key is that you can get them from collecting Rasputin Key Fragments. While there are far less ways now to get those Fragments now compared to when the Warmind content was current (goodbye Heroic Missions), you can still do Nightfalls to net yourself those Fragments. Get seven of them together, then turn them in to Ana Bray who will give you an Encrypted Cache Key.

Spending time in Escalation Protocol and clearing waves will gradually decrypt your Encrypted Cache Key and turn it into something that you can actually use. Luckily for you, part of the Destiny 2 Community Challenge is to down a number of Wave 7 Escalation Protocol bosses, so decrypting the key should be just a natural part of your runs  Once you’ve hit the seventh wave and defeated the Wave 7 boss of the week, you should have two things:

  • A Decrypted Cache Key
  • A chest dropped from the Wave 7 boss

In order to open the chest that drops from the Wave 7 boss, you’re going to need the Decrypted Cache Key. You’ll be eligible for a number of random drops from this extra chest, so it’s really just another chance to get more loot for yourself. Think of it as a sweetener when it comes to all that trouble that you’ll be going through with these Escalation Protocol runs for the Community Challenge. Doing the Nightfalls for the event on Mars for your Fragments will probably also count towards the Challenge requirement of regional Nightfalls so it’s really a case of killing two birds with one stone. If you’ve got any questions remaining about the requirements of the rest of the Community Challenge, then we have a guide for you to check out too.
