How To Craft Polymers in The Alters

Like the clay?

During your time in The Alters, you’ll mine all kinds of different resources and craft new materials from them to expand your base, develop new technologies, and survive. One of these materials is called Polymers, which serve as the base for constructing bridge anchors.

After a certain roadblock in the game’s story, you’ll need to craft Polymers to create bridge anchors to make forward progress. It’s a bit unclear how you’re supposed to make this material, so here are the simple steps required to craft Polymers in The Alters.

Crafting Polymers in The Alters

To craft Polymers in The Alters, you need certain resources, which have to be further refined at a specific module in your base, and finally converted into Polymers, which are a basic requirement to craft Bridge Anchors. Here are the steps required to craft these:

Collect Minerals and Organics

At this point in the game, you’ll have access to both mineral and organic deposits, which you can place mining rigs on for extraction.

I have marked the location for these deposits on the map if you haven’t found them yet.

Be careful when you’re exploring the mineral deposit, as there are plenty of hostile anomalies in that area.

Build a Refinery

Once you have a good amount of minerals and organics, you’ll need to build a Refinery to combine them and craft Polymers. The Refinery module in The Alters costs 40 metals.

Craft Polymers

With the materials at hand and the refinery in place, we can now craft Polymers. Simply head over to the Refinery module in your base and add a few packages of Polymers to the queue and start working, or assign someone else to work the refinery for you.

Each package requires two hours of refinement, so it’ll take a while before you hit your goal.

After that, you can craft Bridge Anchors. For each Bridge Anchor, you’ll need 20 Metals and 20 Polymers, meaning you’ll need eight packages of Polymers in total to move the base. Thankfully, once you have the refinery set up, it’s just a game of waiting for the resources to pool up and crafting to be completed.
